How to Remove Stubborn Adware and Spyware
-----------------------------------------
Viruses are rare nowadays. The main problem with most computer users are adware and spyware. I get repeat emails everyday on how to remove them as they reappear when the user reboots his computer.

When a Windows based program deletes or quarantines an adware the file is not really deleted. It still occupies the same space in the hard disk. Only the entry in the directory is changed. It is changed to the Recycled subdirectory or the Quarantined subdirectory of the spyware program.

Files with read only or hidden attributes cannot be removed from the Recycled subdirectory.

Files with certain attributes cannot be deleted at all. Your spyware program will display the message "Insufficient Resources to Remove this
Adware".

A simple entry in the Windows Registry or perhaps Win.Ini will restore the Adware to its original position from the Recycled or Quarantined subdirectory.

However there is a very simple solution to this.

Your will need the following files from a Windows 98 computer.
1. Attrib.Exe
2. Deltree.Exe

You do not really need V-Buster to remove the Adware. However if you have V-Buster, run Vbuster.Exe from DOS, press "F1" and then "S" to search
for the file. Delete the file when it is found. V-Buster will automatically change the attribute to 20, zero out the front of the file and then delete it.
In this way it can never be reactivated again.

After that run deltree.Exe as follows:

DELTREE C:\RECYCLED

The Recycled subdirectory or Recycle Bin will be deleted with its contents even if it contains protected read only files. Windows will automatically recreate a Recycled subdirectory when it starts again.

If you do not want to use V-Buster use Attrib.Exe to change the attribute of the adware to 20 (read/write) as follows:

ATTRIB -R C:\SUBDIRNAME\ADWARENAME.EXE

Delete the file after that by typing:

DELETE C:\SUBDIRNAME\ADWARENAME.EXE

Then run Deltree.Exe to delete the Recyled Sundirectory as mentioned
above.
