EduNet idea
An idea to provide for computer communication and learning at our schools. The basic idea is to ask schools to be partners in this project by providing them the opportunity to use this computers during the day by paying only 25 percent of the cost. The other 75 percent will come from night users (from 6.00 pm to about 11.00 pm).
l have worked some numbers for worst scenerio below which shows a yield at least 12 percent return. The calculation excludes the advertising revenue.
Calculation:
Cost of computer Pentium 166 MMX with monitor/ modem. 2.1 hardisk: RM 1800
Rent it out at night from 6pm to 12 am : say 3 hours of usage per night for 28 nights in a month will yield a return of RM 3,528 a year at RM 3.50 per hour. After costs below, return to Investors/promoter is about RM 554 (0.55*3*28*12 per year) or 2217.6 in 4 years (life of computer). Since schools will be paying only 25 percent of RM 1800 then this amount is a subsidy to the promoter giving a return to them RM 112.5 + 104.4 (surplus from 2217 less 1800 divided by 4) a year or 12 percent/pa.
Break down of cost:
Communication cost: RM 2.35 per hour (about 3.92 cents per min, Note: telekom rate is about 3 cents/min with first 3 mins at 13 cents) Upkeeping (electricity etc) & depreciation cost : RM .60 per hour
Total Cost of RM 2.95 per hour Profit of RM 0.55 per hour.
Users must get their own account with TMNet or Jaring and access cost is not included in the above.
